I stayed in the office for most of the night finishing my bulletin board, doing program proposals, and cleaning up a bit. A lot of people went out around 11. Around 3AM the URI Police called asking for the date of birth of one of our residents. He hung up before I could ask if there was a problem, but it was likely none of my business anyway (Shelly let me know if you think otherwise). Enjoy the weekend.

Unless they can verify they are the police, we cannot just easily give out this information, as anyone could call and ask this. We are only supposed to give out directory information over the phone, unless the police comes to you in person, needing assistance in a case. They cannot have the information "just because." We need to ask why. The police have other ways to get this info as well...
ReplyDeleteThe URI Police also said in their session during RA Training that they had problems last year with RAs not giving out information for that reason, and under those circumstances it is alright to share basic information.
ReplyDeleteI also called their number back (874-blahblahblahblah ... the non-emergency number) before giving out the information, so if it wasn't the URI Police then someone had taken the police station hostage.
